Join us for an intimate concert with this remarkable performer who, in blending African rhythms with American appallachian ballads, creates a unique and fascinating fusion. A top-level performer on banjo and guitar, Brendan also plays the mbira, a traditional instrument from Zimbabwe.
Having studied with master players in Zimbabwe, Brendan’s mbira playing has been hailed as ‘something of a revelation’ by fRoots magazine and as ‘beautiful’ by Pete Seeger. You can check out his recordings (2013’s Can’t Hold The Wheel and the brand new Fly Down You Little Bird) brendantaaffe.bandcamp.com
For this concert, Brendan will be performing solo. Come along for a unique chance to hear this music in an intimate setting.
“A savvy composer who, like Abigail Washburn with the Sparrow Quartet or, more famously, Paul Simon, brings together disparate traditions into a seamless whole. The result is stark, stirring, and surprisingly accessible”
